Mahmud is a Ph.D. candidate in the Information Systems department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), supervised by Dr. Sanjay Purushotham. He received his bachelor's and master’s degrees in Statistics from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Within the expansive realm of ML for healthcare, his research revolves around the development of novel, efficient, fair, and interpretable statistical-informed ML algorithms for survival analysis in order to build better healthcare by mitigating bias and ensuring equitable and trustworthy predictions. His current research focuses on developing privacy-preserving and communication-efficient federated learning techniques for survival analysis to address the challenges posed by limited healthcare data, data heterogeneity, and stringent privacy regulations on data sharing. He loves music and playing soccer.
